The Plaything

Once a homeless man was trapped by a King,
The King ordered him to stay
In a beautiful garden and take care of it,
But only for one day.

“To these few acres you’ll devote your soul,
Wild, fruitless trees you’ll renew.
And water provide to refresh some plants,
‘Till you leave in an hour or two.”

He cares for old trees, he digs for a well,
Forgotten his future and past.
Yet it doesn’t seem strange to the temporary gardener.
Should his day for eternity last?
